Weights must match the respective movement in length and weight to ensure reliable operation. The length of a clock weight not only influences the weight distribution, but also its compatibility with the movement. The diameter determines how much mass can be accommodated and whether the weight fits easily onto the weight carrier, chain, or rope guide.

The surface can be polished or brushed, depending on the desired style and protection requirements.
