Grinding wheels Convolute
Convolute wheels even out the surface after pre-grinding, creating a uniform base for satin finishing and polishing. When refinishing watch cases and bracelets, they produce a consistent grain without compromising edges or geometry.
Convolute compact grinding discs for watch refurbishment
Compact grinding discs level the surface after pre-grinding and create an even base for satin finishing and polishing. When refurbishing watch cases and bracelets, they ensure a uniform finish without distorting edges or geometry.
What makes them special is their construction: the open-pored disc is manufactured using a special winding process. This gives the non-woven material high strength whilst retaining its adaptability. During use, the wound fibre-non-woven disc moulds itself to the surface of the workpiece and follows even curves and contours smoothly. Silicon carbide serves as the abrasive. Throughout its long service life, it ensures consistent cutting performance and a fine finish, even on sharp edges and with minimal heat build-up. This makes the disc particularly suitable for light deburring and superfinishing, as well as for cleaning, deoxidising and satin-finishing metals, especially stainless steel and aluminium.
In practice, Convolute compact grinding discs are primarily used when the surface needs to be levelled out after deep scratches have been removed. Deep scratches are first worked out using a hard felt disc and polishing paste; the compact grinding disc then evens out the surface before satin finishing or polishing takes place.
In the watchmaking industry, SiC-impregnated lamellar or matting discs are usually used to achieve the actual satin finish on cases, bracelets and casebacks. The compact grinding disc is used in the preceding stage or serves as an alternative when more vigorous levelling is required.
Preserving the geometry and edges is crucial for a clean result. The disc should therefore not be narrower than the surface to be machined and must always be properly dressed. A particularly straight, even finish is achieved when the belt is moved back and forth across the disc rather than up and down.
