Sony shows longstanding commitment towards a greener future - Celebrating 10 years Mercury free battery production.

In 2015 Sony celebrates its 10 year anniversary of the production of mercury-free silver oxide battery. Ever since pioneering this environmentally friendly alternative in 2005, Sony has shifted its entire European battery product range of 32 models to the mercury-free technology, demonstrating its continuous endeavour for environmentally friendly manufacturing.

After recognising its negative environmental impact, the European Commission noted that “Mercury (Hg) and most of its compounds are highly toxic to humans, ecosystems and wildlife”1. The 10 year anniversary puts Sony years ahead of the European Union legislative entity, which will ban the use of mercury in all button cells from 1st October 2015. Sony wholeheartedly backs this move to a new standard of mercury-free batteries, which will reduce the annual mercury consumption by 470kg.

Mercury, which to this date has been tolerated in small quantities of 2% of the battery’s weight, can be a highly toxic pollutant. Although toxic, the chemical has been used in the battery industry to prevent corrosion within the batteries which could result in swelling and leakage.

Thanks to your many suggestions and requests we have further developed our online shop and integrated the following new features:

1. Tracking

Keep track always in view of your orders and recognize at any time the status of your shipment.

Once your order has been received, you will see the picking status already on the traffic light. Yellow signal means your order is in stock and is being compiled, green traffic light signals to you, that the shipment is already packed and on its way to you.

By the way, did you know that the lead time between your order receipt and goods dispatch needs only 15 minutes on average at Boley?

Newly we have also integrated a so-called tracking function. With a simple click you will be forwarded directly to the transporter of your shipment and you can thus follow the progress of your shipment precisely.

2. Backorders

We have expanded " backorders" to the menu item. Up to now all backlog articles have been indicated only the expected delivery date. Now additionally for those articles which are ready for shipping, the status "now in stock" will be displayed. These items are automatically added to your next order and delivered to you. Thus you save administrative and postage costs.

3. News

On multiple customer request, we have integrated a response function into our Messenger. This allows you to communicate quickly and easily with us and reply directly to our messages.
